How does Propecia work?
The finasteride present in propecia acts in a very effective way, but its significant effects are considered by medical prescription for cases of baldness caused by genetic and hormonal causes. Finasteride is an inhibitor of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase, this is an enzyme that transforms testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Finasteride causes DHT levels to decrease in the scalp so that the balding process is stopped and hair regrowth. Other uses of finasteride besides its use in low doses for the treatment of baldness are benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer in higher doses.
Some contraindications of propecia
There is still not a relatively good amount of research and testing completed regarding finasteride, but what is known is that: It is not indicated for women and some studies suggest that it does not affect male reproductive cells. But note that it may have adverse reactions that we will explore below.
Side effects of finasteride present in propecia
Possible side effects of finasteride are: Impotence, abnormal ejaculation, decreased ejaculation volume, altered sexual function, abnormal breast growth and pain in the testicles. It is important to note that the side effects stopped in the men who stopped treatment and in the majority of those who continued.
